Calhoun Bhella & Sechrest welcomes two new partners to its New York office

Calhoun, Bhella & Sechrest is pleased to announce that Lucian C. Chen and Todd Matthew Nosher have joined the firm as partners resident in the New York office. The two are experienced intellectual property attorneys who will serve as co-chairs of the firm’s IP practice.

“We are excited to add two preeminent intellectual property attorneys to our New York office. Todd and Lucian have a strong track record of achieving success for their clients in a broad range of technologies. They add depth to our fast-growing team in New York, Dallas, California, North Carolina and the District of Columbia. Todd and Lucian bring a strong collaborative spirit that will mesh well with the Calhoun, Bhella & Sechrest team,” said Brian Calhoun, one of the firm’s managing partners.

“We are extremely excited to have Lucian and Todd on our team,” adds Cris Cicala, managing partner of the New York office. “They will have an immediate impact on our New York footprint by virtue of adding their formidable litigation capabilities and deep intellectual property expertise to our existing transactional capabilities. I have no doubt that Lucian and Todd will be an integral part of the successful build out of our New York office.”

Lucian Chen has two decades of experience representing clients in multibillion-dollar patent and trademark litigation cases involving products as varied as computer software, antifungals, antibiotics, personal electronics, and custom cutlery. A registered patent attorney, he practices a broad range of commercial and intellectual property law, with an emphasis on complex high tech, pharmaceutical and biotechnology patent and trademark litigation, preparation of patent and trademark applications and prosecution, IP transactions, due diligence and contract negotiations. Mr. Chen has been Editor-in-Chief of Bioprocessing, Associate Managing Editor of Genetic Engineering News, and is currently on the board of Biotechnology Law Report, after serving as its Editor-in-Chief. In addition, he represents scientists and professors before institutional boards, in administrative hearings and in litigation.

Todd Nosher has substantial experience litigating patent, trademark, and copyright matters throughout the country—serving as counsel of record in nearly 100 patent cases in the last 10 years alone. He also counsels his clients on the growth and management of their intellectual property portfolios and handles a wide variety of transactional work, inclusive of sophisticated IP licensing, transfer, and collaboration and partnership agreements. Mr. Nosher handles matters in a wide range of industries and technologies, including consumer goods, media, entertainment, fashion, financial products and services, electronics, IOT, and computer hardware and software. Prior to entering private practice, Todd served as an assistant district attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office where he frequently served as lead prosecutor in jury and bench trials, evidentiary hearings, and certain appellate matters.

“I am excited to team up with my former colleague Lucian Chen, merge with his esteemed practice and join an already impressive bench at Calhoun, Bhella & Sechrest” said Mr. Nosher. “Calhoun Bhella & Sechrest now offers a full-service IP department with skills and experience commensurate with an AMLaw 100 firm. The firm’s mission of providing strategic, personalized counseling in an efficient and affordable manner meshes nicely with the needs of my clients—some of which are already familiar with CBS’ services including its top-tier corporate practice,” said Mr. Nosher.

“The clear synergies Todd and I will achieve by integrating our practices with the sophisticated work that CBS performs are going to be significant,” said Mr. Chen. “I look forward to collaborating with them as we litigate complex cases, prosecute critical patents and marks, and advise on other high-stakes disputes and issues.”

Mr. Nosher, who was formerly a partner at Venable LLP, received his J.D. from Villanova Law School and his B.S. in Biology from the University of Michigan. Mr. Chen, previously with Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto (now Venable LLP), joins from Lucian C. Chen, Esq. PLLC, and received his J.D. from St. Johns University School of Law, his Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Management from Columbia University, and his B.A. in Biology from the Johns Hopkins University.
